Guttman Community College: Located in Manhattan, an urban public institution that offers associate degree programs in an environment that nurtures student success. Based on extensive research, Guttman Community College was conceived and built to implement a new educational model that integrates excellence in teaching, proactive and responsive student supports and external partnerships to create an equitable community in which all students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds can work and learn to the best of their ability.

Lecturer of Biology
Derek has taught and developed STEM curriculum at Guttman Community College since the college opened in 2012. He is involved the Global Guttman study abroad program and has led field expeditions with students to the Chocó biodiversity hotpot in Ecuador to study biodiversity and impacts of deforestation on tropical ecosystems. His broader research is in the field of remote sensing of terrestrial hydrology and ecosystems. He is pursuing his PhD in Earth and Environmental Science at the CUNY Graduate Center and actively conducts research at the City College Ecosystem Science Lab.

Atiya Jackson works with students in the Information Technology, Liberal Arts Science & Math, Liberal Arts Humanities programs at Guttman Community College. She received a Master’s of Education in Curriculum Instruction from the University of South Florida.
